Thanks for the comment, Oak! I think that it's always a good idea to think about how the room will be used before determining which material to go with. As in other design problems, form should follow function.

Hi Heidi,

Consumers often ask about the durability of solid flooring (real wood)compared to engineered. If the product is of good quality, durability should be a concern. Rather, practicality should be taken into account. For some areas, wood just isn't suitable, and for other areas it is an optimal choice. My suggestion is to look at the practicality of the floor, then compared engineered to other options. Thanks!

For large areas of damage to hardwood flooring you can sand the floor back and re-finished it. This is a great way to give the whole floor a new lease of life. However it should be undertaken by a professional to get a perfect finish.

You can't beat the hardwood floors for look and wear, I guess its just the cost that stops a lot of people being able to get it and choose laminate instead.

I would just like to point out that certainly the better quality engineered flooring is not made from a composite wood but made from a top quality plywood. These composite wood materials are what have caused many problems within the enginnered wood flooring market today

Hardwood Flooring are beautiful when done with pride. There is much that goes into hardwood floors that may go overlooked. The difference between a expert and a weekend warrior is huge. Pay for the pro and you will have very long lasting remarkable floors
