The resurgent popularity of carpet is increasingly evident as homeowners reassess what really matters. In a time of global economic uncertainty, our values become clearer than ever and home becomes paramount. Carpet brings to our homes softness, fashion, color, and depth.
Current designs trend toward softer, more tailored looks, including nature-inspired patterns that are woven or tufted into simple florals, including vines and trellises, organic shapes or geometric patterns, plaids and pin dots.
Choosing the color of your carpet is a primary consideration. The blending of subtle shading creates apparent depth. Remember that light colors reflect and multiply light, creating a spacious effect, while dark colors absorb light, declaring a closer, more intimate feel.
Berber is still a popular choice; but unlike the plain Berbers of the early 90s, today’s versions have more texture and pattern. Variation in height and sculpted effects offer a bolder look. Even the more traditional Berbers offer more visual interest, with more extreme differences in pile cut and thicker, deep loop textures. Flecks of color are now appearing against tan, beige and cream backgrounds as well as in the “new neutrals” of soft greens, pale yellows, and shades of blue and smokey greys.
The shift in new products is toward layered color and soft texture carpet. A combination of texture and pattern will always be popular because it minimizes soil and vacuum marks. The other advantage is that color and texture offer more distinctive styling and fashion appeal. New manufacturing capabilities have produced many new looks in carpet construction with cut and loop yarns and in high and low-loop yarns.
Carpet will never go out of style.

What color do you recommend for a single guys house?

What about the girls? What color do you prefer?

If I were to select “guys” vs. “girls” paint colors, I would steer you in the direciton of not being so “blue for boys”-”pastels for girls”. Blues which are normally assocated with boys or commerical settings, can be combined with soft yellow, brown or even shades of pink and orange can make a great impact for girls’ spaces. Bold clear colors are best for younger ages, babies thru tweens rooms. Blues used with grays, whites, taupes, can we a very gender neutral application. As for specific “girl” colors, I would be careful if going in the direction of pinks, corals, peach. They can read fleshy colored if the flooring, lighting, fabrics in the room reflect. Taupe, tan, sand, are always a classic, timeless neutral, especially when teamed up with clear white trim or accents. Dark colors such as burgandy, chocolate brown, hunter green accent walls tend to look cabin-like or too heavy for the lighter fresher color trends. Pale yellow, crisp spring green, pale aqua,are neutral and will liven up any space. I would recommend buying a quart of paint and applying a 3×3′ area on a wall. Better to be safe than sorry! Have fun with paint, it affordable and can make a dramatic change in any space!

Berbers are very difficult to clean. And while carpeting in colors looks great to the original purchaser, if one ever plans to resell their home they should consider hiring an expert decorator. I can not tell you how many homes I have visited where the carpeting is so off tone against the colors of the room that it just detroys the ambiance of the room.

I agree. Carpet colors can be very deceiving when you look at them in a store vs. having them in your home with your wall colors, natural light, furnishings, etc. I would highly recommend you take lots of samples home, ask for a larger sample which any carpet mill will gladly provide for you at no charge, they will ship the sample directly to your home. Taking an exra few days to wait for a sample can we very smart in the long run. Take the samples and live with it for a few days to make sure it all works well. It does not always have to be “matchy-matchy” but blending and complimenting colors is critical since the carpet covers a large part of the room. Thanks for your comment!

That is a cool picture, really good quality. yeah, that carpet though does not look good at all. I need to re-do a lot of carpeting in my house and I was wondering what color goes good with a caramel tone bamboo floor.

I have a terrible eye for this kind of thing. I hired an interior decorator to take care of my office and she did a much better job than I could have myself. Any good recommendations on sites for color matching when it comes to carpet?

Some property owners tend to decorate their houses or offices themselves without asking or researching for professional help. I really think that we should take into consideration whatever theme a our house or office will be.

@TryBPO:
I would go to the Shaw Carpet website, also check Royalty, Fabrica. They will have some great info. They have room scenes where you can change carpet colors. Magazines at the check out stand are a great place for current color inspiraiton.
@Payday Loans:
Carmel colored bamboo floors are very neutral but pulling to the warm tones, ie: honey, carmel, golden colors. You can put gray, green, or try to get close to the bamboo color if you like the more monolithic look. I would take home samples and live with them for a day or two to get your inspiration. Have fun with it!

Normally my wife and I are very boring with our taste, usually going with beige, brown or tan, but we recently found a carpet that has a lot of deep bright colors in it. At first we were questioning whether we should buy it but it really made a boring room look much brighter and set off the deep wood tones we have in our floors and furniture. Glad we got it.

I think a safe way to go would be to start looking for a carpet with just flecks of color and see how that complements your furniture.

Beige goes along with just about any color that’s why it would be a good choice for the color of carpets. It looks really professional so it is also ideal for office designs. I also see beige as a color that is simple, versatile and natural.

okay me and my sister have coral/pink carpet, and were trying to paint our room and were having trouble deciding on a color. what color looks best with coral/pink carpet?
November 30th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
I would start with determining if the coral/pink carpet is a muted or toned down color or is it vibrant and bold? Is there good natural light from a window or windows? Is the room large and can it handle bold contract? Are the doors wood or dark tones? Are you trying to achieve a teen look or a more polished young adult look? I personally would lean toward the taupe/gray with a warm undertone. I love that combination! However, the possibilities are endless. If you want contract, go with a lively celedon green or an apple green with white trim or accent colors for a clean, crisp look. The only colors I would steer clear of would be jewel tones of purples and teals. They will make the room more juvenile as there will be too many strong colors competing with each other. The tone or value of the paint color is critical. What are the colors in the bedding, art, furniture and furnishings in the room? Try some warm chocolate browns, buckskin tan or slate grays. I would go to your paint store, get samples, take samples home and hang them in the room and live with them for a day or two. Once you decide on a color, buy a small can and paint a 2×2″ area on the wall before you proceed. Let me know what you do, I would love to know how this turns out!

I would love to try some color in my carpets around the house but I have dogs and in addition to vacuuming my carpets I have my carpets steamed cleaned about once a month. Would the steam cleaning make the color fade in the carpet?
